Age Of Quarantine, day # 352 - THE HOUNDS have been honing their sound since 2011, I feel they were going for an American-Oi! inspired NYHC type of hardcore -- THE ABUSED meets Y.D.L. -- and in 2012 they achieved right that to perfection with their sick Cassette EP. To top that EP they signed with Painkiller Records to drop their Debut LP in 2013, needless to say that album fit like a glove in the label's hoster.

Meanwhile all this and before recording their final album Hate Springs Eternal some of the bandmembers already had other things going on like HARD STRIPES (with dudes in Fire & Ice) and BLOOD RED. Then, in 2015 they recorded a live performance for KEPX that's very worth checking out, 5 songs under 13 minutes! The band quit not long after it but some of them didn't waste time and started CONCEALED BLADE, right in the alley of Painkiller and Beach Impediment Records killer stuff.

FACTION-S - Paris Negative Oi!

Location: Paris, France

Release: Primator Crew, 2020

Age of Quarantine, day # 162 - France has been providing quality Oi! music for a while now and it seems there's a new batch of up-and-coming bands, most notably, FACTION-S.

Their debut EP released last year has already drawn some attention with a direct influence from the likes of RIXE (including ex-members) and Syndrome 81, showing off a more mid-paced and burly Oi!/Punk style, then, a couple of months back things have changed considerably when they dropped Noyau Dur, containing 3 new fully charged Hardcore songs that makes even the wimpiest lad ready to brawl!

Some of the band members can also be found playing in other fresh and dope french Oi! groups: Squelette and Tchernobyl.

So far, in 2020, there are very few other groups besides FACTION-S and maybe COMBAT FORCE that generated that much buzz in the Oi! underworld but, hailing from the rising Basques scene, enters the black metal skinheads CUERO and their sophomore album Cabezabota! A true delight for bootheadz across the globe.

THE FOG - Into The Fog

Age of Quarantine, day # 69 - From the people who have been providing the best ugliest things on hardcore for last couple of years, SFR-Hardcore (in conjuntion with a bunch of other labels) presents the sequel for the Berlinese band THE FOG.

The band's rawness sound remains but the production in Into The Fog is up a notch, 6 tracks perfect to bust into the dancefloor swinging chains, reminds me of Firewalker in some parts.

If it wasn't for the pandemic they should've been on tour around Asia promoting the album which got a cassette version by Malaysian Pissed Off Records!

Got this recently in my inbox, a Madrilenian combo actually!

Firstly, the striking punk act TENSIÓN! They just put out a new debuting LP, which starts beautifully with a dark punk surf-esque riff a la Christian Death, as the record develops it reveals their true essence, mid-to-fast street punk/Oi!, iberic style.

It's 10 tracks that really invites you to dance, from Uri's gritty singering and the constant gang vocals to the cool mixed riffs, a very solid record!

Coupe du monde? Not quite. COUPE GORGE is here with a follow-up to their 2016 split w/ The Hammer (a showcase of Negative Approach worsphip).

Troubles is a great Hardcore Oi! 12", 8 tracks catchy af! From fast to mid paces, its all here. Another great add to the growing french scene, alongside the more known Rixe and Syndrome 81.

DENIM & LEATHER - Sacred Autism

Location: Manchester, UK

The album of the year to many europeans, definitely one of the most fun! In their third release DENIM & LEATHER offers an inventive, catchy, abrasive and a more broadening record than its previous effort back in 2016, released by Milk Run Records. Mostly beacuse now its a LP insted of an EP, more room for creativity.

Their sound has guitar distortions and fuzzed riffs similar to Black Flag/Pissed Jeans plus the speed and aggressiveness of Poison Idea, all sprayed with a UKHC scent.

First pressing comes in a small batch of 300 LPs, don't sleep!

HARDCORE NEWS 14 "back ta basics"

Bunch of cool new stuff going on (and in all kinds of styles), just buckle up and sit tight here's another Hardcore News, back from dead.

John Flowerhead is up with a new youth crew project called OPEN YOU EYES, possibly named after that fanzine done by John White from Brotherhood's first line-up. Their 7-song demo tape is available here.

Up next is the newest hyped band from California, BERTHOLD CITY. How can you go wrong with a Gang Starr intro? Rumours has it that Andrew Strife is on this project, still not clear. Straight edge music made like when it meant something.

More youth crew on your way! RAPTURE is back representing the NWOBHC, featuring members from some of those cool Leeds bands (Shrapnel, True Vision, etc) led by Mia who handles the mic. New 7" I Glorify to be out soon via Quality Control HQ.

With the demise of War Nerve from Sweden, Gabi started a new Oi/hardcore band, SCREW. Her vocals are even more impressive! Their demo already caught serious attention and will be released both in US and Australia. Other members of War Nerve are in Existence, also very worth checking.

Still in Sweden, TIME TO HEAL is back with a sequel EP out on Powertrip. Since their first record they kept touring, putting their name out as far as Japan adding covers by Floorpunch and Shelter in their energetic setlist. In case you want to hear more of Sofia's beautiful singering check Mystery Language for some reverbed shoegaze.

Want more Oi-ish/Boston hardcore? Melbourne's THE ACCURSED got your fix with their debut 7" on rain on the parade records. Mid to fast tempo changes with great hooks. Fav track: Waste.

BREAKOUT - True Crime

As in every other scene, hardcore moves on following trends, as hard its for some to admit and hate labeling, I think it does! From late 90's to mid 00's it was about melodic youth crew (In My Eyes, Champion, Have Heart) then dark metallic hardcore took place (Iron Age, Violation, Twitching Tongues). Now since Primitive and City Streets landed (reminiscents of 86 mentality), the eye of the storm has become raw 80's skinhead-ish hardcore, UKHC stompers meets Bostons ugliest sons.

Dont get me wrong, these styles has always been present and no one is reinventing the wheel here since all these aforementioned "trends" has its roots from a-long-time-ago-masters: Gorilla Biscuits/Turning Point, Carnivore/Onslaught, SSD/Abused, etc. Besides that, there will always be the HYPE EFFECT, its up to us to see whats worth our time and effort.

Fitting in this current trend, BREAKOUT grants us with their second EP out by Grave Mistake that will surely help shed some light on these texan dudes. Part of their influences has even deeper roots, late 70's Oi! punk music.

Was first introduced to them by deceased Dead & Gone Records in mid 00's, used to buy everything they put out.

Forgotten Streets (3rd full-length) goes a step further into production and music writting, top notch stuff here lads. In their bandcamp you can check/download all their discography for free! Also a new split 7" is on the works, possibly to be released this year.
